JACKSON — Two men have been charged in connection with a shooting on Interstate 20 near Highway 18 appeared before a municipal court judge Tuesday, according to the Jackson Police Department.

Police said 32-year-old Alejandro Macedo received a $50,000 bond, including $25,000 for aggravated assault and $25,000 for shooting into an occupied vehicle. Authorities said Macedo was also ordered to wear an ankle monitor.

Police said 32-year-old Omar Nerio received a $750,000 bond, including $500,000 for aggravated assault and $250,000 for shooting into an occupied vehicle.

The shooting was reported around 6 a.m. Feb. 10. Police said officers were directed to meet the victim at I-20 and Springridge Road in Clinton. Detectives with the department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit responded and began an investigation.

Investigators said the victim was traveling westbound on I-20 near Highway 18 in a white Freightliner semi-tractor truck when he attempted to change lanes. Police said the driver of another 18-wheeler pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle and tried to prevent the lane change. Authorities said the drivers argued, and the passenger in the second truck then pointed a weapon and fired several shots into the victim’s truck.

Police said the victim was struck once in the shoulder and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

Detectives later identified the driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle as Macedo and Nerio, police said. Warrants were obtained for their arrests.

Jackson police said they worked with the Grand Prairie Police Department in Grand Prairie, Texas, to locate and arrest the suspects and obtain a search warrant for the vehicle. Both men were charged with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Police said the suspects remain in custody in Texas awaiting extradition back to Jackson.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
