QUITMAN – Police in Quitman are investigating the death of a man found inside a residence on Thompson Avenue earlier today.
Officers with the Quitman Police Department responded to a home in the 100 block of Thompson Avenue after a family member reported discovering the man deceased inside. Police Chief Chris Read said officers arrived along with investigators and emergency medical personnel.
Preliminary findings indicate the death appears to be accidental, Read said. The man, described as being in his mid-40s, used a walker for mobility and appears to have slipped and fallen inside the home, striking his head.
“The mark on his head is consistent with an accidental fall,” Read said. “At this time, there is no indication of foul play.”
Authorities said a family member became concerned after not hearing from the man and went to check on him before calling 911. EMS personnel responded, and the Clarke County coroner assisted at the scene.
The investigation remains in its early stages, but officials said nothing currently suggests criminal activity. No names are being released pending notification of next of kin. Police said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
