JACKSON — More than 1,000 Jackson Public Schools students and their families gathered Feb. 21 for “Legacy on the Block: Jackson’s Day of Cultural Legacy Block Party” at the Two Mississippi Museums, according to Jackson Public Schools.

Source: JPSThe event featured activities for students and families, including screenings of “Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum” from PBS Kids, trackless train rides, inflatables, T-shirt making and food from local vendors. Students also received vouchers for free children’s meals from participating food trucks.
District officials said the event was part of a national effort focused on teaching, protecting and celebrating Black history across generations. Organizers said the goal was to invest in cultural spaces and transform museums into interactive learning environments where students can connect with history.
Jackson Public Schools partnered with Fahrenheit Creative Group and Color of Change to host the event.
City of Jackson and Hinds County officials, along with members of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus, were also acknowledged for their support, according to the district.
