SARDIS – The Tunica Humane Society says it has rescued a dog that had been reported at a funeral home in Sardis and is now asking the public for donations as the animal receives emergency veterinary care.
In a social media post, the organization said the dog, now named “Beacon,” was rescued after volunteers spent hours trying to get him into a trap. The humane society thanked two men it described as “boots on the ground” in Sardis for helping with the rescue.
The organization said Beacon’s condition was more serious than expected and asked supporters to pray for his recovery.
In an update, the Tunica Humane Society said Beacon is currently at a veterinarian receiving emergency treatment and that officials are optimistic about his future, though they said he faces a long and costly recovery.
According to the organization, Beacon has severe mange with secondary infection, along with heartworms and internal parasites. The humane society said he is also anemic.
The group said it is committed to providing the senior dog with ongoing care and is accepting donations to help cover medical expenses. Donations can be made through the Tunica Humane Society’s online payment options listed on its social media pages, or by mailing checks to P.O. Box 236, Tunica, MS 38676.
