STARKVILLE — A Starkville police officer was critically injured Friday afternoon in a crash while assisting with a funeral procession escort, authorities said.
The collision occurred just before 1:45 p.m. Feb. 21, according to the Starkville Police Department.
Police said a motorcycle officer who was part of the funeral procession escort collided with a vehicle that was not involved in the procession. The impact left the officer with serious injuries.
The officer was airlifted to a hospital in Jackson for further treatment and was listed in critical condition, police said.
The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and declined medical treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
