JACKSON — A 27-year-old Jackson woman has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this week at an apartment complex on Raymond Road, police said.

Jackson Police Department officials said Jamecia Harper, 27, was taken into custody by Robbery/Homicide Unit detectives for her alleged involvement in the killing. Harper is charged with murder and felon in possession of a firearm.

The victim was identified as Kynjarious Rockingham, 30.

Precinct 1 officers were dispatched about 12:30 a.m. Feb. 16 to the Chapel Ridge Apartments in the 1600 block of Raymond Road after receiving a report of a deceased person in the parking lot.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male lying on the ground. Detectives with the Robbery/Homicide Unit, the Mobile Crime Unit and the Hinds County coroner responded to the scene.

Investigators determined Rockingham had suffered at least one gunshot wound and died from his injuries.

Authorities have not released a possible motive in the case. It was not immediately clear whether Harper has an attorney or when she is expected to appear in court.

The shooting marked the city’s seventh homicide of the year, according to police.
