NEWTON – Newton police are investigating after officers found an elderly man dead during a welfare check Wednesday evening.
Newton County E-911 dispatched officers at about 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11, 2026, to a residence on Ora Street, where officers discovered the man deceased, according to the Newton Police Department.
Police said the man’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Based on preliminary findings, investigators said there were no signs of foul play. Police said a follow-up statement will be released after the investigation is complete.
In a statement, Chief McKenzie Patrick thanked residents who check on elderly neighbors and said those efforts can make a difference.
