RANKIN COUNTY – At about 10:09 a.m., the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a report from a fisherman who said he saw a body floating in the Pearl River near the Interstate 20 bridge.
Because that section of the river falls under the jurisdiction of the Capitol Police Department in Hinds County, Capitol Police were notified and responded.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department and Rankin County Emergency Operations Command used drones and watercraft to search the area, and found the body a few minutes later.
Officials said the situation remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
