ASHLAND – The City of Ocean Springs is collecting donations for residents in Ashland, a small Benton County community impacted by recent severe weather, Mayor Bobby Cox said.
In a statement, Cox said Ashland, near the Tennessee border, has about 650 residents, including many older adults in rural areas. He said relief support has already come from groups including the Cajun Navy and the National Guard, but additional assistance is still needed.
The city is asking for Visa or MasterCard gift cards, blankets, adult diapers, Ensure or other protein drinks, feminine hygiene products and basic toiletries.
Donations can be dropped off at all three Ocean Springs fire stations or at City Hall, according to the mayor. City officials said items are expected to be delivered Feb. 16 or Feb. 17.
