JACKSON — Fifteen people have been indicted and arrested following a federal and state investigation into an organized drug trafficking operation in central Mississippi.
The arrests were announced by FBI Jackson, which worked alongside the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and multiple partner law enforcement agencies on the case.
Authorities said the indictments stem from a coordinated effort to dismantle a network responsible for distributing illegal drugs throughout the region. Specific charges and the identities of those arrested were not immediately released, but a spokesperson for the FBI said some of the arrests were in Yazoo County.
“There’s no question our communities are safer today because of these arrests,” officials said in a statement on Facebook announcing the operation. “This investigation underscores the FBI’s unwavering commitment to disrupting and dismantling drug trafficking organizations that threaten the safety of our communities.”
Authorities did not provide details on what types of drugs were involved or how long the investigation had been underway.
The suspects will be arraigned today with detention hearings next week, officials said.
