HATTIESBURG – Southern Pines Healthy Pet Clinic is using a tongue-in-cheek Valentine’s Day fundraiser to raise money for spay and neuter surgeries for shelter animals.
For a $25 donation, supporters can submit the first name, nickname or a fake name for an “ex,” a bad date or a bad decision to be symbolically “spayed” or “neutered,” the clinic said in a social media post. The names will be added to an “official” list set to be published on Valentine’s Day.
The clinic said proceeds will support its “Spay It Forward” fund, which helps cover spay and neuter procedures for shelter pets.
For an additional $15, the clinic said it will write the submitted name on a piece of paper, shred it and use it as kitty litter.
The clinic set boundaries for submissions, saying it will post first names only and will not accept hate speech, threats or explicit language. Submissions must be lighthearted and respectful, the clinic said, adding that it reserves the right to rename an entry “Sam.”
