STEPPING UP TO SERVE: Panola County Inmates Assist With Roadway Cleanup During Ice Storm

PANOLA COUNTY – As icy conditions created hazardous travel across Panola County, a group of county inmates assisted local authorities by helping clear debris from roadways.

Under the supervision of the Panola County Sheriff’s Office, inmate work crews were deployed to remove downed limbs and other hazards that were blocking roads and limiting access for first responders and motorists. Officials said the effort helped improve roadway safety during a critical period of winter weather.

Sheriff’s officials noted that the work allowed emergency vehicles and the public to move more safely through affected areas as freezing temperatures and ice lingered.

In addition to supporting storm response efforts, the initiative provided inmates with an opportunity to contribute positively to the community, officials said.

The Panola County Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation for both the staff overseeing the crews and the inmates who worked through difficult conditions to assist with recovery efforts during the storm.
