GULFPORT — A Gulfport man has been arrested and charged with aggravated DUI resulting in death after a late-night head-on crash on Highway 49 that killed an adult woman and seriously injured a child.
The Gulfport Police Department said officers responded at about 11:59 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, to a crash with injuries on Highway 49 near 34th Street. Police said an adult female was found dead inside a vehicle at the scene, and a small child inside the same vehicle suffered serious injuries.
The child was airlifted to an out-of-state hospital for treatment, police said.
Investigators determined that Kymanni King, 39, of Gulfport, crossed the median and was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 49 when he struck the victim’s vehicle head-on, according to police.
Officers obtained a breath sample from King at the scene that tested positive for alcohol, police said.
King was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 27, and charged with aggravated DUI resulting in death and DUI causing serious bodily injury to a child, police said. He was booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held on a $750,000 bond set by Judge Fountain.
