LINCOLN COUNTY — Lincoln County deputies are investigating a fatal shooting that took place late Friday night.
Sheriff Steve Rushing said around 11 p.m. Friday that 18-year-old Travis Jay Giles was fatally shot at a gathering with friends.
Rushing said there were four others at the gathering, all of whom were juveniles. They were handling firearms and Giles was shot. Witnesses are telling investigators that the shooting was accidental, and that they didn’t realize the gun was loaded.
The shooting happened at Giles’s residence, and it is unclear if alcohol was involved.
“We’re trying to sort through the details on what exactly the circumstances were,” Rushing said.
It is unclear at this point if charges will be pressed. Rushing said the case will go to Grand Jury to make a decision.
