GREENVILLE – Emergency crews responded Wednesday to a gas station in Greenville after a canopy above the fuel pumps collapsed, injuring about 10 people and damaging several vehicles.

Source: Greenville FDThe Greenville Fire Department said crews were dispatched to Rick’s Express on Broadway Extended, where the canopy fell onto vehicles below. Officials said approximately 10 people were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
Firefighters remained on scene securing the area and assessing the stability of the remaining structure. The area surrounding the gas station was blocked off as a precaution, and authorities asked the public to avoid the vicinity while emergency operations continued.
Fire officials said the collapse appeared to be caused by excessive water and ice buildup on the canopy. They urged motorists to use extreme caution when fueling at stations with visible ice or water accumulation and to watch for signs of sagging or structural instability.
The gas station will remain closed until further notice. Fire officials said additional updates will be released as information becomes available.
