TUPELO — Animal rescue organizations and animal control in north Mississippi are urgently seeking volunteers and supplies as they work to keep rescued dogs safe during freezing temperatures.
North MS Animal Care & Control Association LLC said it is working with Paws of War and other rescue partners to care for dogs being housed temporarily while they await transport. Volunteers are working around the clock, but more help is urgently needed.
Rescue organizers said kerosene is critically needed to heat the temporary shelter and protect the animals from dangerous cold over the next two days. Paws of War said it will cover the cost of commercial delivery to ensure the kerosene arrives as quickly as possible.
In addition to fuel, the organizations said they are in need of towels and paper towels to help with daily care and cleanup. Volunteers are also needed immediately to assist with cleaning, feeding and tending to the dogs.
The temporary shelter is located at 845 Coley Road in Tupelo, at the back warehouse. Officials said the rescue effort remains ongoing and that the next several hours are critical for the animals’ survival.
