LAMAR COUNTY — A local church is helping make a difference for those in need as winter temperatures drop across the area.
The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office said Saint Fabian Catholic Church donated more than 40 “blessing bags” for deputies to distribute to people experiencing homelessness throughout the county. The bags included cold-weather essentials such as fleece blankets, socks, knitted caps, gloves, lip balm and hand warmers.
Deputies said the donations were greatly appreciated by those who received them and arrived at a critical time as temperatures dipped.
“This is a great example of the care and compassion that exists in our community,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We are grateful to Saint Fabian Catholic Church for stepping up and helping our neighbors stay warm.”
The sheriff’s office thanked the church for its generosity and support, calling the effort a reminder of the strong sense of community across Lamar County.
