CLINTON — Eight of the nation’s top young vocalists will take the stage in Clinton on Feb. 1 as Opera Mississippi presents the winners of the John Alexander National Vocal Competition.
The concert, set for 3 p.m. Sunday, will feature emerging artists selected from more than 300 applicants across the country. Organizers say the performers represent some of the most promising operatic talent in the United States, with training and performance credits from institutions including Juilliard, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Minnesota Opera, the Curtis Institute, and the Glimmerglass Festival.
Sponsored by the Robert M. Hearin Foundation, the annual competition honors the legacy of celebrated Mississippi‑born tenor John Alexander. Opera Mississippi officials say the event is designed to elevate young artists and provide meaningful opportunities early in their careers.
The winners’ concert is billed as both a celebration of excellence and a glimpse into opera’s future, bringing nationally recognized talent to a local stage.
