COLUMBUS — Two men have been arrested in connection with a burglary of a building, a vehicle burglary and an arson investigation, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said.

Source: Lowndes Co. SOThe suspects were identified as Jonathan Paul Shumaker, 35, and Darin Wayne Haynes Jr., 38. Authorities said Haynes was on probation at the time of the incident and was wearing an ankle monitor.
Deputies responded about 4:54 p.m. Jan. 11, 2026, to the area of 7293 Highway 45 North, where the two suspects were reportedly caught removing items from a storage building.
Investigators later determined the same individuals were allegedly captured on surveillance video earlier that day, around 2:30 a.m., breaking into a vehicle and vandalizing a nearby business, Nate’s Body Shop, at 7482 Highway 45 North. According to investigators, the video shows the suspects breaking a window, setting an item on fire and throwing it inside the business, causing minor damage.
Shumaker and Haynes were taken into custody and are being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, where they are awaiting their initial court appearance.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
