NORTH FORREST – First responders with the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department responded Friday night to a report of a possible structure fire after a home in the 200 block of Mary Magdaline Road was struck by lightning, officials said.
The department said crews were called to the scene around 8 p.m. on Jan. 9. First arriving units reported a single-story home with no visible signs of fire.
Source: North Forrest VFDAfter further investigation, responders determined the residence had been struck by lightning, causing significant damage to sheetrock, windows and exterior plumbing, officials said. Firefighters conducted a thorough check of the home and did not locate an active fire.
The homeowner was inside the house at the time of the incident and escaped without injury, the department said.
The Glendale Utility District and Mississippi Power also responded to assist at the scene.
