JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to take precautions as severe weather threats, including flash flooding and tornadoes, move across the state.
In a safety reminder shared this week, MDOT urged residents not to attempt to outrun a tornado in a vehicle and to seek sturdy shelter if a tornado threatens. The agency also warned motorists not to take cover under highway overpasses.

“Turn Around Don’t Drown™” if you encounter a flooded roadway, the agency said.
MDOT encouraged drivers to stay weather-aware and to check the MDOT Traffic app for changing road conditions before traveling. The agency also advised residents to follow the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency for additional emergency updates.
