JACKSON — Jackson Public Schools has canceled all after-school programs and athletic activities for Friday, Jan. 9, due to the threat of severe weather, district officials said.
Madison County Schools are also canceling their after school activities and will possibly have an early dismissal today, depending on severity of the weather.
According to the National Weather Service, conditions this afternoon and evening could include high winds, flash flooding, and the possibility of tornadoes across the area.
School officials said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of student and staff safety. District leaders said they will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as needed through official JPS communication channels.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware and follow guidance from local emergency management and meteorologists as storms move through the region.
