SMITHVILLE — A Monroe County man was arrested Sunday in connection with an alleged road rage incident that led to a shooting at a home, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Richard Lance McCain, 38, of Parham Gin Road near Smithville, was arrested Jan. 4, 2026, by Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Investigators charged McCain with aggravated assault involving the use of a deadly weapon.
Sheriff Kevin Crook said the charge stems from an apparent road rage incident reported earlier in the day around 5 p.m. on Mt. Zion Road. Authorities said the shooting later occurred at a residence on Ausborn Road.
No injuries were reported. The investigation remains active and ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
