STONE COUNTY — A Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper seriously injured in an on-duty motorcycle crash is getting help from donors across the state as he works to regain his independence.
Trooper Tavon Moore, who was hurt in August, recently returned home to Stone County after spending four months hospitalized in Georgia. Moore remains in a wheelchair and faces daily challenges with mobility, including getting in and out of vehicles, officials said.
To help ease that transition, multiple donors came together to provide Moore with a wheelchair-accessible Ford F-150 equipped with modifications designed to make travel safer and easier. The truck has been lowered and outfitted with retractable seating, hand controls and a wheelchair lift.
The effort was supported by nonprofits, political figures and private donors, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Pine Belt Auto Group promised to provide repairs and oil changes on the truck for life.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell said the support reflects how widely Moore’s story has resonated.
“Everybody has his back, from his neighbors to his wife to people he has never met,” Tindell told WLBT News. “We’re here to help him and make sure one day he’ll turn those sirens on again in his vehicle that says ‘state trooper’ and he will be back to work.”
Highway Patrol officials said the timing of the donation is especially meaningful at the holiday season.
