UPDATE: Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard has identified the victim of the Luter Lane shooting on Christmas day as 27-year-old Javarian McAbee.
The victims of the Christmas Eve double homicide on Lynn Avenue were Rodney Gilbert, 22, and George Smith, 20.

Multiple shootings across Jackson on Christmas Day left three dead and at least two others injured, prompting investigations by multoiple enforcement agencies.
Jackson police investigated a homicide reported about 2:30 a.m. Christmas morning in the 1500 block of Luter Lane, according to Hinds County Sheriff and Police Chief Tyree Jones. Officers found a man fatally shot in the yard of a home. Two people were detained, and criminal charges are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.
Later that morning, Jackson police responded to a shooting at the Rainbow Motel on Medgar Evers Boulevard involving a motel employee. Police said the employee was shot multiple times following an argument with a customer over a rented room. The suspect and a passenger fled the scene in a white four-door Honda. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. Investigators said they have a possible suspect and are working to verify additional information.
Capitol Police also investigated a Christmas Day shooting that injured one person at a home on Aberdeen Street. Officers responded around 1:29 p.m. and found a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital. No information on the victim’s identity or condition has been released.
On Christmas Eve, Jackson police were called to a double homicide that occurred in the 100 block of Lynn Avenue. Two victims were found suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation is ongoing.
“The Jackson Police Department appreciates the community’s cooperation as we continue this investigation and work to ensure public safety,” the department said in a statement.
Authorities have not indicated whether any of the incidents are related.
