Jesus Roberto CarrizalesGULFPORT — A Texas man is being held on a $1 million bond after authorities say nearly 19 kilograms of cocaine were discovered during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Gulfport.
Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley announced Wednesday that Jesus Roberto Carrizales, 38, was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in a controlled substance following the stop.
According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, criminal interdiction deputies stopped a Freightliner semi for traffic violations on I-10 East near the 35-mile marker. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found two firearms in the cab and noticed irregularities with the semi, prompting further investigation.
Authorities said deputies later discovered 19 kilograms of cocaine concealed within the vehicle. Investigators estimate the cocaine would have a street value exceeding $1 million if distributed individually.
Carrizales was taken into custody and booked into the Harrison County Jail, where he is being held on a $1 million bond set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert J. Fountain.
The Harrison County Narcotics Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration assisted with the investigation. No additional information was immediately released.
