NEWTON, Miss. — A man has been sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted him of first-degree murder in the 2023 killing of Kendrick “Monster” Evans, according to the Newton Police Department.
Authorities said Evans was killed on Dec. 24, 2023, at a home near the corner of Oak Street and Violet Street. Newton police opened a homicide investigation and charged Fredarius Lyndsey with first-degree murder.
The case went to trial Dec. 9-10, 2025. A jury found Lyndsey guilty, and he was sentenced to life in prison, police said.
In a statement, Chief McKenzie Patrick said the department hopes the verdict provides closure to Evans’ family and thanked the district attorney’s office and investigators for their work on the case.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
