HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. — Eleven puppies are safe and warm after a coordinated rescue effort led by Harrison County Animal Control deputies and Harrison County Fire Rescue.
Authorities said the puppies were discovered hidden beneath a house near the Sam’s Club area, where their mother had been seen roaming for weeks. The location made access difficult, and multiple attempts to reach the puppies were unsuccessful.
After extensive planning and coordination, Animal Control Deputies Girouard and Necaise, along with Harrison County Fire Rescue personnel, were able to safely retrieve all eleven puppies on Wednesday.
The puppies were transported to the local humane society, where they are now receiving care and staying warm.
Officials said teams are continuing to double-check the area to ensure no puppies were left behind. Efforts are also underway to capture the mother dog so she can be reunited with her litter.
Animal control officials also thanked the Gulfport Police Department’s Animal Control Officers for assisting in attempts to safely capture the mother dog during the rescue operation.
Authorities praised the teamwork involved in the rescue, calling it a strong example of collaboration among local agencies to protect animals in need.
