LAFAYETTE COUNTY — A man was arrested Sunday after firing several shots into the air outside Anchor Baptist Church on Highway 7 South, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they took 34-year-old Christopher Ray Reed into custody after locating the silver SUV he was riding in shortly after the incident. Reed appeared to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
Sheriff Joey East said Reed did not say why he allegedly fired the shots, but simply asked for a lawyer.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a shots-fired call around 10 a.m. Church members told investigators the passenger of a silver SUV yelled profanity at congregants before firing multiple shots into the air with a handgun. No injuries were reported.
Reed is charged with making a terroristic threat and is being held on a $75,000 bond.
