82-year-old Tunica County woman charged with murder of her boyfriend

An 82-year-old Sledge woman has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting her boyfriend at a Tunica County residence, according to the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, deputies received a 911 call reporting a shooting at a home on Tibbs Road. The caller told dispatchers that she had shot her boyfriend.

Sheriff’s deputies and Pafford Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, where they found a man with a fatal gunshot wound. He was identified as 75-year-old James Larry Jr. of Sledge, Mississippi, and was pronounced dead by the Tunica County Coroner.

Deputies made contact with the caller, identified as Mattie Crockett, 82, of Sledge. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and released, then taken to the Tunica County Jail.

Crockett has been charged with murder. She appeared before a judge on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, and her bond was set at $100,000.
