WARREN COUNTY — Amazon plans to invest $3 billion to build a new data center campus in Warren County, Gov. Tate Reeves announced Wednesday, marking the largest economic development project in the county’s history.
The investment is expected to create at least 200 high-paying full-time jobs and support more than 300 additional positions in the region. Construction on the Vicksburg-area complex is expected to begin in 2026.
The project expands Amazon’s growing presence in Mississippi. In January 2024, the company committed $10 billion and 1,000 direct jobs for data center campuses in Madison County, generating thousands of indirect jobs in construction, supply chain operations and related services.
State officials said Amazon Web Services’ investment will strengthen infrastructure needed for advanced computing, generative AI and high-tech cloud applications.
Previous Mississippi Major Economic Impact Authority legislation approved for Amazon’s Madison County projects will apply to the Warren County development. Local support and Entergy Mississippi’s long-term power commitments were also key factors in the decision.
“There’s no question that technology has a home in Warren County,” said Kelle Barfield, president of the Warren County Board of Supervisors. “The decision by Amazon to build here was met with a number of challenges that the economic development team had to confront, but with perseverance and the full support of state, county and city leaders, all those hurdles were overcome. The result will be a major boost to our local tax base.”
Local economic development officials said the project represents a turning point for the region.
“Amazon’s decision to locate in Warren County marks a defining moment for our community,” said Pablo Diaz, president and CEO of the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership. “This project will bring enduring and transformational benefits to our small businesses, create exciting career opportunities for our residents and provide long-term revenues for our local governments.”
Vicksburg Mayor Willis Thompson said the investment will touch every part of the community.
“This exciting announcement by Amazon is about much more than economic growth — it’s about opportunity for our people,” Thompson said. “Every part of our community stands to benefit, and this investment helps ensure that the next generation of Vicksburg residents can build their futures right here at home.”
Amazon officials said the company plans to continue investing in workforce development and community initiatives throughout Mississippi.
