CARROLL COUNTY — Carroll County deputies recovered a stolen tractor valued at $60,000 after a multi-county search that ultimately led investigators to private property near Yazoo County, authorities said.
Deputies launched the investigation after the tractor was reported stolen in Carroll County. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators used information from informants in recent drug arrests, drones and extensive searches across several counties to track down the equipment. The tractor was found behind a locked gate, and the person who purchased it for $20,000 may now face charges.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office transferred the case to the Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau, which is now investigating what officials believe is a multi-county theft ring expected to result in several arrests.
Sheriff Clint Walker praised deputies for what he described as “dogged determination” throughout the search.
“With dogged determination, they pursued each and every lead until this equipment was found,” Walker said. He added that cooperation among agencies was key to recovering the tractor.
Walker also warned the public about purchasing items priced far below their value, saying such deals may involve stolen property and could implicate buyers in criminal activity.
“If someone tries to sell you something for basically pennies on the dollar, don’t just assume it’s your lucky day,” he said. “It could implicate you in their crime and cost you far more than you ‘save.’”
