STATEWIDE — With the nation’s 250th birthday coming up next summer, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is encouraging residents to start planning early for a major Fourth of July celebration at state parks across the state.
Seven parks — Roosevelt, Paul B. Johnson, Clarkco, Percy Quin, Buccaneer, Trace, and J.P. Coleman — will host Independence Day weekend events featuring cookouts, live music, and fireworks over the water.
“Americans have celebrated freedom for 250 years,” said Andre Hollis, state parks director. “This July 4th, we invite everyone to celebrate that spirit with us at Mississippi State Parks and make memories that will last a lifetime.”
Campsite and cabin reservations are now open at reserve.mdwfp.com, and park officials are urging visitors to book early for what they expect to be one of the biggest weekends of the year.
Paul B. Johnson, Percy Quin, and Clarkco state parks are currently undergoing renovations, and updates will be announced when those sites reopen in time for the holiday.
