RIDGELAND – The Ridgeland Fire Department is creating new opportunities for military veterans to continue their commitment to service — this time in the field of emergency response.
Led by Chief Jonathan Posey, a veteran who understands the challenges of transitioning to civilian life, the department has launched an Apprenticeship Program for Emergency Medical Technician–Basic (EMT-B) training. The initiative, supported by the Ridgeland Board of Aldermen and developed in partnership with the School of EMS and COMPASS, allows veterans to use their GI Bill benefits to complete EMT and paramedic training.
The program combines classroom instruction, fieldwork and hands-on experience, offering veterans a structured path into emergency medical services. Participants receive mentorship and practical guidance designed to build confidence and ease the transition from military to public service.
The department also plans to expand the program to include firefighter training for veterans interested in joining the Ridgeland Fire Department.
City officials said the initiative reflects Ridgeland’s ongoing commitment to supporting veterans and strengthening community safety. It offers those who once served their country a new way to serve their neighbors — protecting lives at home with the same dedication they brought to their military careers.
