Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced the sentencing of Jakalyn Moore, of Southaven, for one count of Sexual Battery by a Person in Position of Trust and Authority and one count of Child Exploitation. The case was investigated and prosecuted by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office with assistance from the FBI.
On October 27, Tallahatchie County Circuit Court Judge Smith Murphey sentenced Moore, a former West Tallahatchie School District substitute teacher, to 25 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 15 years to serve and 10 years of post-release supervision. Moore must register as a sex offender and pay a $2,000 assessment to the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund.
Moore was also sentenced to 15 years in federal prison on a separate charge of production of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). The federal sentence and the state sexual battery sentence will run concurrently and be served in federal custody. After her federal release, Moore will still serve 10 years of state post-release supervision.
“Exploiting children that you are responsible to care for is a serious violation of trust,” Attorney General Fitch said. “I am grateful to my team for their hard work investigating and prosecuting this predator, as well as the FBI for their partnership on this case. It is my hope that closing this chapter will help the victims and their families on their journey to healing and recovery.”
