According to police, the suspect involved in a fatal crash in South Jackson Saturday was already on probation for felony fleeing in Madison County and tested positive for alcohol at the scene.
Byram Police Chief David Errington said Antyon Gray is charged with one count of fleeing and two counts of aggravated DUI negligence after the vehicle he was driving as he fled from police allegedly slammed into another car and killed a mother and daughter.
Shali Davenport, 48, and Debra Washington, 66, were killed when they were allegedly struck by Gray’s vehicle as he fled Byram police.
Byram police received a BOLO for an alleged armed robber’s vehicle and found it on I-55, initiating the pursuit that ended at Robinson Road and Raymond Road. Later on, they found out that the alleged offense should have been conveyed to them as shoplifting.
Authorities say Gray has an extensive criminal history with over 50 arrests since 1994, spanning from narcotics possession and distribution, DUI, numerous traffic offenses across several agencies in the Metro area. He also has multiple outstanding warrants, police said.
He tested positive for alcohol on the scene, officials said. A search warrant was issued for a blood draw that was done at UMMC. It will be processed for an official result at the Mississippi State Crime Lab.
