CRAWFORD — The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Friday night shooting that left one man injured.
Deputies were contacted by medical personnel at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon after a gunshot victim arrived for treatment. According to authorities, deputies responded to the hospital and spoke with a witness, identified as the victim’s girlfriend.
The witness told investigators that the shooting occurred on Main Street in Crawford near Tina’s, and that a black Honda or Hyundai drove by while a Black male suspect fired from the vehicle into a crowd of people.
The witness said she and the 48-year-old victim then drove to 60 Farmers Market Road in Crawford. When she realized the victim had been shot, she took him to Noxubee General Hospital. Hospital staff said the victim would be transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for further treatment.
Deputies later responded to the Farmers Market Road address, where they found one shell casing, along with blood and a towel in the front yard. Investigators said preliminary findings suggest the incident may have occurred at the residence, though the witness maintains she and the victim never got out of the vehicle while there.
