RANKIN COUNTY — There’s something to be said for the absolute adrenaline of being trapped in a place where the only way out is forward, and there’s no telling what’s coming at you.
Is it a killer pig? A surgeon with a saw? A chainsaw-wielding clown? It could be anything at the Spooktacular Haunted Trail at Cypress Point Resort this year.
While Cypress Point Resort is known the rest of the year for its lakeside relaxation and family Safari getaways, October brings out its eerie alter ego. The resort’s Spooktacular event is underway Friday and Saturday nights, transforming the peaceful property at 874 Holly Bush Road into a haunted playground through Nov. 1. From 7 to 11 p.m., brave guests can their nerves inside the haunted house-style attractions.
The “Safari Glow Ride,” a nighttime adventure filled with lights and frights, gives visitors a chance to experience the property in a whole new way.
Social media posts promoting the event promise “chills, thrills, and glowing adventure,” and photos from past years show everything from glowing skeletons to costumed monsters emerging from the dark. If you go in person, though, that’s when you’ll meet the macabre cast of characters, and hopefully you don’t run through a fence trying to get away from them.
You’ll also possibly meet an eland named Ollie who tried to do the exact same thing on the first night of the event.
