CLINTON — Former Clinton Christian Academy assistant basketball coach Willie Alexander was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing a 14-year-old player.
Alexander, 50, previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery and two counts of exploitation of a minor, according to the Clinton Police Department and court records.
He was given 30 years, 10 years suspended on each count of Child Exploitation. These two charges will run concurrently. Then he has to serve 30 years, 20 years suspended for the Sexual Battery charge.
This charge runs consecutive with the other two, meaning he will serve the 20 years for exploitation and then he has to serve 10 years for the Sexual Battery charge. If he gets out after this, he will have to register as a Sex Offender.
The case began in June 2022, when the victim’s mother reported the abuse after her son told her that Alexander had been sexually abusing him for several months at the coach’s home in Clinton. Investigators said Alexander groomed the boy with gifts and promises and forced him to engage in sexual acts.
Authorities said the teen also reported traveling with Alexander to Dallas and New Orleans, and that there were plans for other trips.
After the allegations surfaced, police said Alexander appeared uninvited at the victim’s home and admitted to teaching the boy how to use a condom. Detectives later searched his residence, where they found sex toys, recording devices, electronic equipment, and a hidden camera disguised as a battery-operated air freshener in a shared bathroom. A van at the scene also contained sexual paraphernalia.
Alexander was arrested shortly afterward and charged.
Clinton officials commended the victim for his courage in coming forward and praised Detective Amanda Johansson for her thorough investigation.
