DREW — Jamar Phillips, 36, was arrested in Laurel on Oct. 10, 2025, following a fugitive investigation conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Phillips was wanted by the Drew Police Department in Sunflower County on two counts of molesting (touching a child for lustful purposes).
In June 2025, the Drew Police Department launched a criminal investigation after being alerted by a local hospital that a 7-year-old child had been sexually assaulted. On Sept. 15, felony warrants were issued for Phillips in connection with the case.
On Oct. 10, Deputy U.S. Marshals with the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force tracked Phillips to a residence in the 600 block of Harvest Quarter in Laurel. Authorities said Phillips refused to exit the home when ordered to do so, prompting officers to enter the residence. Phillips was taken into custody with the assistance of a K-9 unit.
He is being held at the Jones County Adult Detention Center while awaiting extradition back to Drew.
The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force began operations in July 2006 and was among the first regional task forces to become fully operational following the Presidential Threat Protection Act of 2000. The task force partners with more than 60 federal, state and local agencies and operates eight fully staffed offices. Since its inception, the unit has apprehended more than 70,800 fugitives across the region.
