FLORENCE — A former Florence daycare worker has been arrested after investigators say she abused multiple children in her care.
According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, Sharon Elaine Young was arrested Tuesday and charged with seven counts of contributing to the neglect of a child following a week-long investigation.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the investigation began after allegations surfaced that Young had physically abused children while employed at a Florence daycare facility. Rankin County detectives, working with the Mississippi State Department of Health, gathered what they described as clear evidence showing Young mistreating children under her supervision.
Following the investigation, a warrant was issued through the Rankin County Court, and Young was taken into custody.
She was booked into the Rankin County Detention Center and released on a $20,000 bond.
Authorities have not released the name of the daycare facility, and the investigation remains ongoing.
