Traffic stop leads to three felony drug arrests in Picayune

A routine traffic stop in Picayune led to three felony arrests Monday evening after deputies recovered suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to Major Donnie Saucier.

Around 6:15 p.m., Deputy Malley Bilbo saw a white Chevrolet Tahoe on Grover Barrett Road with occupants not wearing seatbelts. When the deputy attempted a stop, the vehicle accelerated and items were tossed from the windows, Saucier said. The SUV was stopped shortly after on Abbott Street, and three people were detained: Jeffery Howard, 55, Morgan Waters, 31, and Brandon Fischer, 37, all of Picayune.

Deputies recovered a clear bag with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and a pouch containing used syringes. All three were arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and felony tampering with physical evidence.

Sheriff David Allison praised the deputies’ response, saying the case shows how routine patrols can remove dangerous drugs from the streets. Major Donnie Saucier added that the incident highlights the value of attentive patrol work and community awareness.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
