GULFPORT — An 18-year-old Gulfport resident has been arrested on multiple felony charges following a vehicle theft investigation in Harrison County, officials said Wednesday.
Jamaro Jonathan McNair was arrested on two felony counts of motor vehicle taking, one felony count of burglary of a vehicle, one felony count of directing or causing a youth to commit a felony, one felony count of failure to stop a motor vehicle when signaled by an officer, and one felony count of possession of a stolen firearm, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Matt Haley said deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at a home in the 10000 block of Roundhill Drive in Gulfport. During the investigation, authorities learned that McNair had arrived in the neighborhood in a stolen vehicle taken from Three Rivers Landing in Gulfport. He was accompanied by a juvenile at the time.
McNair is accused of burglarizing a vehicle in the Roundhill subdivision and stealing another vehicle from the same area, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies later located the stolen vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 10 and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop on County Farm Road after its battery died. McNair was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a stolen firearm, officials said.
The juvenile was also charged with burglary of a vehicle and motor vehicle taking. He was transported to juvenile detention.
McNair was booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility and is being held on a $210,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge T. Lyons.
