The Jones County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that Clifton McGruder, once listed as one of the county’s “Most Wanted,” is now in custody and being held at the Jones County Adult Detention Facility (JCADF).
McGruder was wanted on a bench warrant related to First Degree Murder and Attempted Murder charges. His bond had previously been revoked by the Jones County Circuit Court.
According to the sheriff’s department, McGruder surrendered to a bail bonding agent, who then arranged for him to turn himself over to JCSD deputies and Ellisville Police Department officers at the detention facility.
The search for McGruder involved multiple agencies, including the Petal Police Department, whose officers assisted with surveillance at houses in both Ellisville and Petal on Tuesday before McGruder surrendered.
Sheriff Joe Berlin praised the cooperation between agencies.
“The investigation into Clifton McGruder’s whereabouts and efforts to take him into custody was definitely a team effort between JCSD, Ellisville PD, and Petal PD,” Sheriff Berlin said. “We also appreciate the support of a bail bonding agent who was instrumental in arranging McGruder’s eventual surrender.”
McGruder remains incarcerated at the Jones County Adult Detention Facility.
