Greenville Police have arrested a woman in connection with a fatal stabbing that happened Tuesday morning.
On September 2, around 10:50 a.m., officers were called to the 300 block of North Theobald regarding a possible stabbing victim. When they arrived, officers found a man lying on the ground with a stab wound to the chest. Witnesses at the scene told police the suspect had fled on foot toward North Steele Lane.
Officers quickly located and apprehended the suspect in the 600 block of West Alexander Street without incident. The victim was identified as 60-year-old John Sexton of Greenville. He was transported by ambulance to Delta Health but was later pronounced dead around 2:15 p.m.
Police arrested 56-year-old Angela Cartwright of Greenville in connection with the incident. According to witnesses, Sexton had been talking with a friend when Cartwright allegedly approached and stabbed him in the chest.
Cartwright has been charged with First-Degree Murder and is currently being held at the Washington County Correctional Facility awaiting her initial appearance.
Authorities remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
