STEPPING UP TO SERVE: Capitol Police, Rescuers Save Dogs Discovered During Warrant Operation in Jackson

A rescue in Jackson, Cheshire Abbey, rescued several dogs left after a warrant was served in south Jackson.

Capitol Police Flex Unit and the U.S. Marshals served a warrant in south Jackson and noticed three dogs inside of the home. They appeared to be neglected and abused. There were feces around the home.

The dogs appeared to have been abused, according to rescuers. One of the dogs had severe scarring and a serious mouth infection. Chrissy Cheshire, with Cheshire Abbey said this appeared to be a result of repeated fighting. When the dog is safe in Chrissy Cheshire’s car, you can see how timid and afraid the dog is. His face speaks 1000 words, even if he can’t actually say anything, and it is so heartbreaking.

Rescuers said that despite their conditions, the dogs showed no aggression toward the officers and rescuers helping them. The animals were taken to Florence Animal Clinic where Dr. Dye looked them over and gave them a full medical assessment.

Cheshire Abbey said they plan to pursue additional charges against those responsible.

“This precious boy had a severe infection in his mouth and scars all over his body. He seems extremely defeated, yet so sweet. These pups deserve so much more than what they’ve been through,” Cheshire Abbey wrote in a statement.

Cheshire Abbey thanked Capitol Police, the U.S. Marshals, and Dr. Dye for their roles in the rescue, saying community support is so important and crucial to helping them save more animals in the community.

The officers could have easily turned a blind eye and decided not to put up with hassle of finding help for the dogs. The vet could have turned them away since they were rescues and didn’t have funding right away. But neither group turned a blind eye. They chose to see and help, and make a difference.
