UPDATE: Brandon Man Accused in Two Homicide Cases in custody

UPDATE, 12:50 A.M.

Matthew Brian Kidd is in custody, according to Rankin County investigators. He is charged with murder in the death of William Earl Morris and Christian Storey.

He was arrested Thursday night at the Rodeway Inn in Brandon.

Authorities said cooperation between Rankin County and Brandon were key in the apprehension of Kidd.

A Brandon man is now charged in two separate homicides after law enforcement officials say evidence links him to killings in both Rankin County and the city of Brandon.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 35-year-old Matthew Brian Kidd has been charged with murder in the death of William Earl Morris.

Investigators say Kidd was previously identified as a person of interest, but until Thursday, August 28, there was insufficient evidence to file charges. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant through Rankin County Court, and Kidd has been listed as a wanted fugitive.

Also on Thursday evening, Brandon Police officers responded to a 911 call around 6:05 p.m. at 107 Gayden Street. Inside the home, officers found 33-year-old Christian Storey dead from a gunshot wound. Through their investigation, Brandon Police identified Matthew Brian Kidd as the suspect.

Brandon Police Chief Joseph French called the incident “a tragic and violent act,” and urged the public not to approach Kidd, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Law enforcement officials say the motives for both killings are unknown. Local, state, and federal authorities are all working together to find Kidd and bring him into custody.
