UPDATE: Rankin County Coroner David Ruth identified the victim as 25-year-old Kianna Jackson. She is being held for autopsy to rule cause and manner of death. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brandon police have confirmed that they are working an apparent attempted murder/suicide at the McDonald’s restaurant. Chief Joseph French released a statement around 8:30 p.m.
On Monday around 6:51 p.m., officers with the Brandon Police Department were dispatched to 132 Stribling Lane in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers discovered one individual deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. A second individual, identified as the suspect in this incident, was located on scene suffering from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The suspect was immediately rendered aid and transported to a local hospital, where they remain under medical care.
Names of those involved are currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This incident appears to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and further details will be released as they become available.
