Baylor freshman lineman, former Greenville St. Joe’s standout Alex Foster fatally shot

Baylor University remembered Alex Foster in a post on Facebook Wednesday.

Baylor Bears redshirt freshman defensive lineman Alex Foster, a former standout at Greenville’s St. Joe, was fatally shot in Greenville Tuesday night.

Details of the shooting have not yet been released, but Foster is the most recent of a string of shootings that have killed and injured people in Greenville over the last few weeks, most recently being O’Bannon High School student Cody Boettcher, 16, who was killed Sunday night.

A statement from Baylor Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mack B. Rhodes and Head Football Coach Dave Aranda said, “We are heartbroken by the unexpected passing of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, friend, and a cherished part of the Baylor Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and all those who loved him. In this time of deep sorrow, we draw strength from our faith and the unwavering love of the Baylor community. Our immediate focus is on supporting Alex’s family and his teammates through this devastating loss. Alex’s memory will forever be a part of Baylor University.

According to Baylor’s website, Foster, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive lineman, was the top-ranked prospect in the state of Mississippi. A product of St. Joseph High School in Greenville, Foster was a four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 152 recruit by On3.

He was ranked as the No. 152 overall recruit in the nation and the No. 18 prospect in Mississippi and the 69th-best defensive lineman.
