DeSoto County Declares State of Emergency After Severe Storms

The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors has issued a Declaration of Emergency following a powerful storm that swept through the area on Sunday night, May 18, causing significant damage, according to WMC.

According to WMC, officials say the storm brought strong winds and possibly a tornado, resulting in widespread destruction across the county. Numerous trees were downed, power lines damaged, and roads blocked, leaving thousands of residents without power.

Emergency crews are working throughout the county to clear debris and restore access, while additional resources have been requested to support the ongoing recovery efforts.

County leaders are urging residents to stay home if possible, warning that many live power lines remain down and pose a serious danger.

The situation is still developing as emergency officials assess damage and prioritize public safety.
